Since vaccinations started, the global pandemic has now become a lot more segmented on different countries. So we thought it would be a good idea to analyze trends for travel to see which markets are recovering faster than others. Our reference will be Google Trends tool.

Flights

Here are the top 5 countries searching for flights in the past 30 days.

Oh and by the way, interest has been steady during this period.

Looks like United States and Australia are clear winners, fueled mainly by their strong domestic travel.

Let’s dig deeper into this two and see the top cities people are searching from.

Top USA cities
Top Australia cities

Hotels

Doing a similar analysis let’s see if the trends are similar for hotels.

Interesting that while USA is still first, Australia is down from #2 to #7. Maybe they prefer other types of lodging?

We can also observe other big markets like UK or Canada popping up. This were not under flights because of their smaller size, they are more prone to road trips not requiring air travel so much.

Going deeper again for USA to see the top cities for hotels.

Final Thoughts

To end this trend report let’s take a look at the overall graph for the past three months.

Red: Hotels — Blue: Flights

There’s a clear upwards trend for both but seems hotels are picking up faster than flights. And that is expected since a lot of domestic and nearby trips are being made right now.

Hopefully this trend will continue to rise in other countries soon and we can get back to traveling around the world!
