A few months ago we wrote about the different trends occuring in the travel industry, taking Google search interest as reference. Now that a lot has changed and especially today with the new entry policies taking action in the United States for tourists around the world, we decided to do an update.
Flights
Here are the top 5 countries searching for flights in the past 30 days.
Last time the United States was first, now Puerto Rico and Ireland are catching up. And it’s great seeing Canada too who has been one of the toughest countries on travel restrictions during the pandemic. While Australia is not on the top list, it currently holds the #8 position and is a strong market recovery happening during the past few weeks.
If we go one level deeper, we can even see which cities are leading the charge.
Interesting that here the United States dominates the full list of ten major cities.
Hotels
Now let’s take a look at the hotel trends too and see if they are similar to flights.
Indeed it’s very clear that both travel verticals move together as expected.
Final Thoughts
To end the article we will move the timeline further away to twelve months and spot the overall trend of interest for the industry.
We see here that even though it’s going up, there was a seasonal spike during July and has been down since. We would expect it to be recovering again closer to the end of the year.
